1. Opportunities

Without taking risks, there are chances that you could miss out on some amazing opportunities. Venturing into the unknown means opening new doors. These unforeseen opportunities can be the biggest game-changers when it comes to getting ahead in your life. If you only ever play it safe, these opportunities will pass you by unnoticed and unexplored.

2. Builds Confidence

I Can’t/Can

Taking a risk and moving into the unknown requires you to have confidence. It requires you have confidence and believe in yourself more than anything else. While not all risks pay off, the fact that you had the confidence, determination and conviction to follow that uncertainty is something that will keep you going. You start to realize just how resilient you can actually be.

3. Learning

Life Lessons

One of the biggest things taking risks will help you with is learning. Whether the risk paid off or didn’t, it will allow you to learn so much from it. Every mistake and every success have something to learn from. If you don’t fall, you’ll never know how to get back up and that is one of the things that taking a risk will teach you. The lessons you learn will go on to shape you and eventually, plays a big part in your success.

4. Motivation

Keep Going

Success isn’t something that just comes to people who want it. You have to put in the hard work and earn it! Often times, people tend to lose motivation along the way and that is something that causes stagnation. Taking a risk in life means having to prove that risk was worth it. Which means, it’s one of the best ways to motivate yourself to achieve more and be more. Venturing into the unexplored means having to work hard to prove it was worth it. So, risk and motivation definitely go hand-in-hand.

5. Overcome Your Fears

Fear

Everyone has fears. At some point or the other, you’re going to be up close and personal with the things you fear the most. It is at that time you realize the importance of facing your fears. People who tend to take more risks are often better when it comes to facing their fears. For people looking to be successful, nothing is worse than the fear of failure and that is something taking risks helps with. If you don’t fall, you’re never going to know how to get back up. Taking risks helps you overcome the fear of failure because it pushes you forward and makes you more determined to succeed in the face of adversity.

It does not matter if you are a Doctor, a Lawyer or an infantry soldier in the Army if you want to be the best and get ahead, you will need to take risks.

A doctor may have to take risks while working with a patient. The Doctor may have to experiment with different forms of medications or new surgical procedures when all else has failed in an attempt to help the patient.

A lawyer may have to argue a case in an unorthodox manner to win the case, but if the lawyer wants to become the top lawyer and make millions of dollars fighting high profile cases lots of risks have to be taken.

A soldier may have to take a risk and run thru gunfire to save another injured soldier, to complete their mission, or just to secure an area from being overrun by enemy troops, after going days with little to no sleep, but if a soldier wants to get promotions and eventually lead men into battle, they also need to take risks.

These risks are not unlike someone looking to get rich in a casino, they have to be willing to risk everything they have to get that million-dollar payoff. If you play it safe in a casino you may get lucky and win a big jackpot on the slot machines, but if you want to make millions you are going to have to play games such as Poker, Blackjack and Roulette. These are the games that with some skill, some luck and a lot of risk taking you can retire off your winnings.

The same can be said about life in general. No one gets ahead in life from playing it safe. You will not meet your special someone if you are too afraid to risk getting rejected by someone, you will never get that big promotion unless you take risks at your job.

It is very important to continue to take risks in life. To stop taking risks means to stand still in life. Standing still in life is one of the main causes of depression. These are usually the people afraid to confront the boss and tell him that they demand a raise; they are the ones that allow life to pass them by out of fear. The entire purpose of fear is to stop you from taking a risk.

Fear is nothing more than the unknown. If you have always wanted to quit your job and open a shop but you are too afraid to do it, this is because you are afraid of failing and risking what you already have.

It is important to learn to take risks in life if you want to be happy, you may not always get the things you risked for, but you will know that you tried, and in the end it does not matter in my opinion if you succeed or not it is how many risks you try to make that is the real test of how successful you are.

Just remember if no one took risks we would be a world without flight and probably no automotive vehicles at all, maybe we would have no electricity. So, risk truly is needed to improve the world.

Here are some of the biggest benefits from taking risks:

  1. Your self-esteem will grow. When you take a risk, such as trying out for the choir or going out for the soccer team, you may indeed be terrified, and you may not make the cut. But if you can be proud of yourself for trying, you’ll notice that your self-esteem will improve. Every time you try something outside of your comfort zone, you are growing and pushing yourself – and that just makes you stronger for the next risk you take.

  2. You will learn new skills. Even though you may not make every group or team at school, you can always find something to participate in. And joining those groups will teach you, new skills that you’ll be able to carry into other areas of your life. You’ll have more experiences to put on your college application someday, too.

  3. You’ll make more friends. Have you ever seen the movie “High School Musical”? At the fictional East High School, the jocks never associated with the theater kids, and the theater kids never associated with the science decathlon kids. But when Troy and Gabriela branched out into doing another activity, they met new friends and the whole school came together. This can happen in real life, too!

  4. You become empowered to make choices in your life. When you avoid taking risks, you may grow up to be very passive, letting life happen to you, rather than being proactive about going after your dreams. When you realize that you can try something and succeed, you’ll learn that you have a lot of power over your own happiness.

  5. You’ll learn how to embrace failure. School tends to wire students to focus on doing things “right.” After all, most teachers still give as for right answers, not risky ones. But real learning and achievement can only come when we get comfortable with failing. Failing is the only way that we learn. If you don’t make the cut for the baseball team, you can work on improving your hitting and catching so you can try out the following year. Or it may show you that you really don’t want to play baseball after all, which frees you up to pursue something else.

  6. You may succeed. And let’s not forget the most important one – when you take a risk, you may actually succeed and love it! Of course, you won’t know unless you try.
